Entertainment Industry Honored in Act Two of “The Betty Awards” for 2012

BETTY DRAVISI’m excited about bringing you Act Two of my Fantasy Betty Awards. Since I’m an author and adore reading books by my peers, my first ceremony was dedicated to them.  It went on for so long, however, I feared tiring our readers and friends, so I saved some book categories for a later production. Not to keep other fine writers on pins and needles, but I’ll feature them in Act Three and hope you all stick around tonight for the movie industry and entertainment awards.

I was encouraged by the positive response from my First Act: everyone was delighted to receive their Betty Awards with many posting theirs all around the internet. I was flabbergasted when Betty winner Emily Hill Tweeted it to twenty-six million Tweethearts… And you thought I got around…  (Cousin Oscar phoned me and he’s so jealous. He said I got more international coverage than he did. When I explained to him that you, dear friends, placed me on a golden pedestal, giving me the courage to name an award after myself, he seemed to understand. After his laughter died down, he said I was vainer than he… Oh, well, he’s family and still adores me…so I won’t worry about him.)

To prove his family fidelity, Oscar’s in our audience tonight, right next to my guest-of-honor Clint Eastwood {who, incidentally, has a heart-shaped Betty (designed in enamel on gold) pinned to his tuxedo lapel}. … sigh... In fact, Oscar seems to be in Heaven since he’s in Director’s Row, not only with Clint but with Quentin Tarantino and Robert Reed Altman, director of Antonia Tosini’s latest movie The Flight of the Shaman. (I saw Dimi Nakov of New Zealand and David Worth working their way down the aisle too.) Director Armand Mastroianni is seated at our table because… More about that below.)

ANTONIA TOSINII’m getting ahead of myself… Guess who flew in all the way from Naples, Italy to be our “presenter” tonight? None other than internationally acclaimed, award-winning screenwriter and author, Antonia Tosini… Her in-production movie is directed by the great Robert Reed Altman, mentioned above. This lovely lady not only has several movies in the making, but she’s also Italy’s Ambassador of Goodwill. For her to take time off from her busy schedule to be with us is, indeed, an honor.

And that’s not all: famous Hollywood filmmaker Armand Mastroianni picked her up at the airport in a long stretch limo and then dropped by to pick me and my entourage up at our West Hollywood hotel. Accompanying me are my best friend Linda Bulger, authors Barbara Watkins, Joanna Lee Doster, Ashley Fontainne, Emily Hill, Gladys Quintal, Linda Leander, Daniel L. Carter, Dr. Niamh Clune, Janet Beasley and Wayne Zurl. Yes, we have chosen Hollywood for Act Two because it’s all about the film and entertainment industry this time.

ARMAND MASTROIANNINow it’s time for the awards and I’d like to thank Cousin Oscar for getting us booked into one of the smaller theaters for our ceremony. It isn’t Dolby Theater but we don’t have as many guests so that would not have been appropriate. Everything about this theater is glamorous and glitzy, reminiscent of Old Hollywood with modern trappings…so this setting is perfect ambience.

Since Armand Mastroianni has the envelopes in hand, ready to assist my mentor and dear friend Antonia Tosini in presenting the awards...ON WITH THE SHOW, my friends! (You will notice that even though these awards are for movies and entertainment, one author is receiving an award because her book is in a special movie category. And remember, more authors in Act 3 of The Betty Awards.)

Don't forget to place the colorful Betty Award image on your various websites, including Facebook, to show the world you won a BETTY. :-) For those who wish to embed it, message me on Facebook and I'll send the code. It will make me very proud and happy to see my pretty little icon all over the place. I'm so grateful to author Emily Hill for Tweeting it to millions of Twitter Tweethearts. Thanks, Emily, and all Act One winners who have posted this icon on your sites. And thanks again to Joni Lynn of Blue Harvest Creatives for designing the icon and my new website top banner. Aren't they cool?

See you at the next presentations which will be for artists, book covers, comedians and more authors, of course. I never tire of favoring authors. Now I'm soing to go tell my kids all about seeing Clint again and how he came to our table and... Well, it's for family only... After all, it's MY fantasy... :-)

Move Over, Oscar! Here Comes Betty!

“The Betty Awards” for 2012

Betty DravisI am very pleased with the year 2012... family-wise and book-wise.  Grandson Seth got accepted into that Esko Bionics program and is walking with aid of their innovative invention.  He was supposed to participate for a few weeks, but he did so much better than others that they keep calling him back. He seems to be their poster boy. This program gave him a new lease on life. We haven’t seen him so positive and upbeat since an accident that left him with a spinal cord injury fourteen years ago. Sadly, it will be a few years before the equipment is available to the public, but now he has hope and renewed strength and determination. Praise God for miracles… Also, several granddaughters won scholastic honors and women achievement awards. With nine grandchildren, five great-grands and one great-great granddaughter, I could go into endless detail here, but will refrain; saving that for other blogs, tweets…and snippets to share on Facebook.

As for my literary works, I published two new e-books in 2012, won two new writing awards, personally, and two awards with my co-author Barbara Watkins for both books in our SIX-PACK series. Also I made some impressive new online friends and received rave reviews from three acclaimed movie directors…and the great John Locke, the idol of all independently-published authors.

I’m so happy, I want to spread the joy, so I came up with another of my spectacular ideas. :-)

I decided to initiate “The Betty Awards”… my very own “awards” ceremony.

Anyone want to win a Betty? Now before you start laughing, read on… Maybe then you will laugh with me, not at me.

Without a doubt, this is the height of vanity to present an award named after oneself, but my friends encourage my “funkiness” and have come to expect it of me. (If you read their complimentary articles and outrageous comments about me, you will see what I mean.) Things like this are now part of my branding, so I hope you accept my “Betty” with the same pleasure that movie stars accept my cousin Oscar. Let me have my fun! :-)

Katherin "Kat" Kovin Pacino on the Red CarpetThat said, let’s get on with the awards. On my whimsical red carpet, we have Hollywood Insider, Katherin Kovin Pacino opening the envelopes for us this week. Kat is a dynamo at multi-tasking: actress/producer/writer/contributing author/humanitarian and artist. And in case you don’t know, she is the stepmother of living legend Al Pacino. I’m sure you will enjoy Kat; she’s not only a “hottie,” she’s charming and has the happiest laugh in show business. But far more important is that Kat’s sincere; the dearest of friends, never failing to phone me at important times in my life. (She just seems to know when I need to hear from her…)

I hope you like The Betty Award logo created for me by Joni Lynn of Blue Harvest Creatives. I think it’s the cutest little thing in the world, so am pleased to present the very first Betty Award to BHC for “originality of design.” Congratulations to Joni and staff. (I’m sure Kat won’t mind me announcing the first winner; it just seems to fit here.)

I love all my friends on Facebook, Goodreads, Twitter, Author Central, Celebrating Authors, Deserves Cupcakes, On the Plum Tree, Go Indie and Paranormal Group, to mention a few. I have so many talented authors, entertainers and artists to acknowledge…but tonight I’m starting with authors, with the exception of a few special awards of the evening. The last is a surprise and you’ll see why when we arrive at the end of The Awards Ceremony.

Before Kat announces the talented winners, I’d like to say that I will post the special code for the Betty Icon at the bottom of this blog so that you recipients can post the icon on your website or other pages, if you wish. I think my Betty icon is aesthetic enough to enhance even the most elegantly formatted website. (Would love your feedback…later…) Now sit back and enjoy...

2013 Starts off With a Bang! 2012 Was Super Rewarding! Thanks to you!

2012 has been an exciting year for me, my family and my books! On the book front, I won three awards in 2012: First, my epic romantic thriller, 1106 GRAND BOULEVARD, placed in top 20 of BEST WOMEN'S FICTION and I placed 18th in THE FOURTH ANNUAL SHORTY AWARDS (author category). The third award is for my first horror book that I co-wrote with the Queen of Terror Barbara Watkins. Our SIX-PACK OF BLOOD won BEST PARANORMAL HORROR from Director/Producer Dimi Nakov of Zodiac Entertainment in New Zealand.

Not only THAT, but our SIX-PACK put Barbara and I into an elite class of writer who can claim international best-seller status! Yay! That happened when SIX-PACK became no. one in Kindle Paid books (horror genre), No. 2 in Germany and No. 34 or so in the UK. It actually made it into the top ten and top one hundred many times. Thanks to YOU, our wonderful friends, who are kind enough to buy our works.

2013 started off with a bang, too! Our sequel to BLOOD, SIX-PACK OF FEAR, won DIRECTOR'S CHOICE/BEST PARANORMAL/FEAR award for 2013. That's mind-boggling when you consider that it isn't even out yet. What happened is that we sent a copy to Dimi Nakov, requesting a review blurb for front of book. To our surprise, he loved it so much he gave us another monumental award. Thanks, Dimi. You New Zealanders know good horror when you read and/or view it. :-)

As you all know, writing books is hard work but a lot of rewarding fun too. But we authors all hate the marketing process. Thus, when we do achieve great press, we are walking on clouds. That's me now! Walking on another cloud because Steve Caresser placed my books in THE BEST READS of 2013... And so the goodies continue to pour in. Thanks, Steve. You rock, man! Please check this link to see his postings. http://per.li/ePrintedBooks/1357756688#

I must also thank these authors for writing special blogs and/or splashes about me and my books: Janet Beasley, Niamh Clune, Daniel L. Carter, Linda Leander and the artist Sally Ann Rowland. I've also been invited to guest for Collette Scott, Carolyn Arnold, Deb Hockenberry and Uvi Poznansky.

And I can't forget radio hosts Judyth Piazza, Bennet Pomerantz and Ashley Fontainne for having me on their popular shows. My next interveiw will be with the lovely Jessica Gilbert for my third appearance on her Talent Spotlight Magazine. And then in February  the charming radio hostess Mackenzie Knight is featuring me...  I'll keep you posted. In face, I need to post a list of past, present and future interviews on this site somewhere... So much to do... :-)

My motto is REACHING OUR DREAMS ONE BOOK AT A TIME, and I'm happy to say that I came out with two new books in 2012 (photos on montage above): STAR STRUCK: Interviews With Dirty Harry and Other Hollywood Icons and my first horror (SIX-PACK OF BLOOD) mentioned above) that I wrote with Barbara Watkins.  SIX-PACK OF FEAR (again with my favorite horror writer Barbara Watkins) is my first offering for 2013. I'm so lucky to be able to work with Barbara again. Wow! God is good!

I have another announcement to make. Barbara and I adore filmmaker Armand Mastroianni, so when we learned he has a new film out we jumped on the bandwagon and started promoting it to all our websites and to friends like you. DARK DESIRE is a made-for-TV movie and it won the LMN poll so gets the special viewing placements. I've seen it three times already. LOL It's fabulous and the actors superb. Please see it on LMN when it rolls around again. As a result, the great, very generous Armand sent Barbara and I a treasured gift: a limited edition poster of DARK DESIRE featuring Nic Robuck and signed by Armand, Nic, Producer Ed Polgardy and the gifted screenwriter Julie Lynch.

Before closing I need to thank these awesome, very famous people for writing Forewords for my last three books: Director David Worth (for my DREAM REACHERS II...written with Chase Von); NY Times bestselling author John Locke (for my STAR STRUCK); internationally acclaimed film director Armand Mastroianni (for SIX-PACK OF BLOOD). I can't tell you who is writing the foreword for SIX-PACK OF FEAR yet because we want to surprise you with this awesome movie director/drama coach. Thanks to Armand for recommending this award-winning, innovative, lovely woman. And thanks to all of you for sprinkling stardust on my works! I am so humble and grateful.

I'm also redesigning my website very soon and will announce the winners of THE FIRST ANNUAL BETTY AWARDS. Stay tuned, your book, cover or creative design just might be the winner of a BETTY!

Goodnight, friends. It's Friday, so have an awesome, relaxing weekend. Do what you like doing best! Hugs - Betty PLEASE LEAVE COMMENTS; THEY MEAN A LOT TO ME. And invite your friends to visit my site.
